The AIAP Graphic Design Documentation Centre (AIAP CDPG) curated the exhibition, commissioned by MAECI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, entitled PINK. Women of Italian Graphic Design. From the Origins to Contemporaneity.
The exhibition, starting in February 2025, will be shown at various venues of the international circuit managed by the Ministry: Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies, Consulates and other locations in different countries.
The first two scheduled appointments are in the United States and on the occasion of IDD 2025 (Italian Design Day) in Washington at the Italian Cultural Institute (14 February-14 March) and in Philadelphia at the Consulate General of Italy (12-26 February). Further events will follow in the coming months.
The PINK project reconstructs and exhibits the figures and contributions of graphic designers active in Italy between the 1940s and the present day. A period characterised by great changes for the Italian context and society, and not only: from the economic boom, with new products, habits and rituals, to the era of transition, with the pervasiveness of the digital, the crisis of values and constant uncertainties.
PINK intends to highlight women’s contribution to the evolution and development of the profession and of Italian visual culture; and, more generally, how little their work in the conception of iconic images, in some cases, entered into the imagination of millions of people, has been recognised.
PINK presents more than forty female graphic designers who have worked and continue to work in Italy, including some of the winners and selected in the five editions of AWDA, the AIAP Women in Design Award, the international prize that AIAP has been promoting since 2012. In particular, the exhibition includes projects and materials by Brunetta Moretti Mateldi, Jeanne Michot Grignani, Anita Klinz, Umberta Barni are shown in the three sections (Women Pioneers of Graphic Design, The Years of Continuous Change, AWDA Selection), Claudia Morgagni, Lora Lamm, Alda Sassi (Alsa), Simonetta Ferrante, Ornella Linke Bossi, Ornella Vitali Noorda, Carla Gorgerino, Natalia Corbetta, Adelaide Acerbi, Michela Papadia and Gemma Fiorentini, Aurelia Raffo, Graciela Ana Galvani, Elena Green, Patrizia Pataccini, Ginette Caron, Simonetta Scala, Elisabetta Ognibene, Silvana Amato, Alessandra Morcella, Patrizia Di Gioia, Maddalena Fabbri, Laura Viale, Cristina Chiappini, Laura Bortoloni, Claude Marzotto and Maia Sambonet (òbelo), Olimpia Zagnoli, Claudia Neri, Orith Kolodny, Roberta Manzotti, Paola Fortuna, Annalisa Gatto, Laura Doro, Chris Roccheggiani, Federica Lasi, Francesca Ulivari, Claudia Polizzi, Valentina Alga Casali.
