        AIAP

AIAP was founded in Milan in 1945 as the Associazione Tecnici e Artisti Pubblicitari (Association of Advertising Technicians and Artists – ATAP), as from 1955, it became known as the Associazione Italiana Artisti Pubblicitari (the Italian Association of Advertising Artists) after splitting from the Tecnici Pubblicitari (Advertising Technicians) segment. After several name changes, which documented the evolution of the profession, in 2011, it became Associazione Italiana Design della Comunicazione Visiva (the Italian Association of Visual Communication Design).
It brings together the figures of designers, researchers and students of visual communication design and promotes and divulges the enhancement and development of the profession as well as design culture.
AIAP both promotes and fosters spaces for cultural exchange and growth, nationally and internationally by organising events, initiatives, exhibitions, together with editing publications and catalogues. AIAP is also the publisher of «Progetto Grafico» and «PAD. Pages on Arts and Design».
AIAP CDPG curates the Graphic Design Historical Fund, a complex of archival collections that bear witness to the design production of more than 100 graphic designers, alongside the Graphic Design Library, hosting approximately 8,000 sector-related volumes and journals.

The Fund includes documents and membership records, testimonials, printed matter, photographs, and materials related to the history of the Association. Among the most interesting materials is the complete set of plates related to the AIAP Garter Prize (1956–1963), periodicals («Poliedro», «Quaderni AIAP», «Grafica», «Notizie AIAP», «Progetto Grafico»), publications and catalogues either produced or edited by the Association, the original version of the Graphic Design Charter, and printed matter signed by various graphic designers, including Franco Grignani and A G Fronzoni.
